KarmaCompany's PLEASED TO MEET YOU...

For the past 5 years, our organization has worked tirelessly to promote the Right to Education initiative. This bill, passed by Parliament in 2009, states that all children should have a seat in the classroom. One specific (and controversial clause) posits that all private, unaided, nonminority schools must set aside 25% of their kindergarten seats to children from underprivileged backgrounds.

KarmaCorps firmly believes in the principles enshrined in this bill. We believe in the value of integration, and a world where a single classroom's desks are filled with the children of sweepers and industry tycoons alike. We believe quality education is the single most effective tool in creating true economic mobility. Every parent wants their child to rise above their own station in life, and the Right to Education's 25% quota is, as we see it, an incredible opportunity to create a society based on meritocracy.

For this reason, our team promotes awareness of the program in the city's slums and housing boards. We help hundreds of families every year apply for admissions, and then we ensure they are given due consideration alongside all of the other applicants.

Once the children are admitted, we do not expect schools to handle the burden alone. We understand children from Tamil-speaking households may struggle to keep up with their English-speaking, affluent peers. As such, we provide free tutoring centers in the neighborhoods we serve. KarmaCorps carefully monitors every child to guarantee that they are not falling behind in the classroom. Our program also offers each child a healthy, nutritious meal at the end of class, free medical check-ups, and we like to have fun, too--every child gets a birthday gift on their special day, and we hold year-end outings that give them experiences comparable to their well-off peers in school.
